Welcome to the first annual “Tri for the Y” Shenandoah Valley Sprint Triathlon. The goal of this first ever sprint triathlon in central Virginia is two fold – to create a professional, competitive and community-oriented triathlon, while raising money for the Waynesboro, Virginia, YMCA. All proceeds for this event will go directly to the YMCA as they continue to work tirelessly to build strong kids, strong families and a strong community. The YMCA, the City of Waynesboro, and the local community are enthused about hosting a new and exciting event that will showcase the beauty of the picturesque Ridgeview Park, the surrounding green rolling hills, the tranquil South River and into the heart of downtown Waynesboro. This sprint triathlon allows you the chance to compete, soak in the surroundings and feel like a part of the community. The triathlon will be designed for both serious triathletes who are looking to donate to a worthy cause, and those individuals who are looking to take their first big step onto the triathlon scene. We will provide all participants with the best volunteers, support services, and access to invested local businesses. We look forward to, and are excited about, your participation in this first annual triathlon. We ask that you come with great expectations for yourself, for the event and for the Waynesboro community.

Jeff Fife, Director, Waynesboro YMCA

Do you have to have people to have a relay team or can you just have two people? One doing the swimming & the other person doing the bike & run.
Oops I meant 3 or 2 people?
Hello. Can you please tell me how many people have signed up so far for the Waynesboro Tri. Thanks, Melissa
We road and ran the course today. Beautiful bike course. Noticed that the mile markers have you going the opposite way around the loop portion. Good decision, less crossing over outgoing cyclist. Also, according to the run directions, it has you making a loop around a portion of the Golf Course on the way back, (Greenway drive). According to our Garmin that would make the run course a bit long. The extra loop seems confusing as well as unnecessary. Could you clarify?
Hi Cherie, glad you were able to test out the bike course; we were out there on Saturday morning as well! We want to make sure that there will be as little traffic issues on the bike course as possible. As for the run, we were doing some fine tuning of the course this weekend, and while we originally planned for a little bit of a longer run (3.4mi) but are able to run through the Park and have the turn-around be right at the end of Meadowbrook Road; making the run exactly 3.1 miles. We will be providing hard copies of the final maps to everyone in their race packets as well.
Can’t wait to see everyone in one week!
Is it possible to walk-up and register on race day?
Thanks!
Hi Thomas,
Yes! It is possible to register on race day! There will be an additional $10 fee for any race-day registrations, but we would love to see you out there! Thanks for the question and we’ll see you Sunday.

About how many people have registered?
We have about 100 participants for this Sunday. We’re looking forward to having a great event for everyone!
Thanks for putting on such a wonderful event. Everything seemed well organized and the course was as flat and fast as you could hope for in this area. Hope this event continues to build. Special thanks to Lee for providing moral support roadside.
Congratulations on a terrific inaugural event. Everything was very well done.
Thank you for such a wonderful experience. Looking forward to more of your events. Congratulations!
When and where will results be posted? I was unable to stay for the awards. Thank you for a great race!
Great race guys. Great venue and race course. Look forward to next year.
Hello Triathletes,
The timing company is currently working on processing the final results. Once they get them to us, we will immediately post them on the website and send out a notification email to all participants. It will be either tonight or tomorrow morning.
Also, stay tuned for some pictures from the event in the next few days (hopefully) as well as a post-race survey.
We are thrilled that everyone enjoyed the race. Congratulations to you all!

Excellent race to everyone involved, athletes and volunteers. I’ll be back next year and hopefully bringing more people to this race.
