Welcome to the second annual  Shenandoah Valley Sprint Tri for the Y.  The inaugural event was a tremendous success and we’re looking to make it even better for all participants this year. The goals of the event will be similar to last year – to create a professional, competitive and community-oriented triathlon, all while raising money for the Waynesboro YMCA. Proceeds for this event will go directly to the YMCA as they continue to work tirelessly to build strong kids, strong families and a strong community.

The YMCA, the City of Waynesboro, and the local community are enthused about hosting this event for the second year in a row and are looking forward to growing the success of the event in the coming years. The tri will showcase the beauty of the picturesque Ridgeview Park, the surrounding green rolling hills, the tranquil South River and into the heart of downtown Waynesboro.  This sprint triathlon allows you the chance to compete, soak in the surroundings and feel like a part of the community.  The triathlon will be designed for both serious triathletes who are looking to participate in an event dedicated to a worthy cause, and those individuals who are looking to take their first big step onto the triathlon scene. We will provide all participants with the best volunteers, support services, and access to invested local businesses. If this is your second Tri for the Y, we are looking forward to seeing familiar faces from last year and if this is your first time competing with Elevation Athletics, we look forward to supporting you in your pursuit of your athletic goals! We ask that you come with great expectations for yourself, for the event and for the Waynesboro community.

Race Information – 5/24/11

Registration

There are still spots open for the Tri for the Y.  If you have any family or friends who may be interested in competing, have sign up before by the end of the day on Friday, June 3.

Relays

If you have a few friends that either aren’t ready to compete in all three disciplines by themselves, or would rather be part of a team, encourage them to sign up to be on a relay!  Relay teams can register through Friday June 3 on Active!

Packet Pickup

Packet pickup will again be held at the Waynesboro YMCA (648 South Wayne Avenue
Waynesboro, VA 22980) on Saturday, June 4th, from 3PM-6PM
.  For those of you who are first-time triathletes, these packets contain valuable items that you will need for the race the next day including: race bib numbers, course maps, schedule and swim cap.  All participants MUST bring a photo ID to packet pick-up; all USAT members must bring their USAT membership card.  This will also be a great time to speak with the race organizers, and ask any questions you may have.  Directions will be provided if you would like to ride the bike course, or scope out the pool at Ridgeview Park.

Race Morning

The race will begin at 7:00AM sharp on Sunday, June 5th, meaning that all athletes must be entirely clear of the transition area by 6:40AM.  The transition area will open at 5:30AM on race day, allowing all athletes plenty of time to set up their equipment.  The pre-race meeting, mandatory for all participants, will be held on pool-deck at 6:45AM.

Race Course

The only significant change to the course this year is that the bike loop will be clock-wise instead of counter-clockwise.  Maps of the swim, bike, and run course can be found below and will be included in your athlete packet.

THE FRAN CRIPPEN ELEVATION FOUNDATION

In addition to the Waynesboro YMCA, a small percentage of the proceeds will also go towards the Fran Crippen Elevation Foundation. The foundation was established in memory of our brother and co-founder, Fran Crippen, who tragically passed away during an open water race in Dubai. The foundation has been created to support athletes pursuing their athletic dreams and also promoting safety in open water swimming.
